Governance Working Group
It's crucial to consider how to structure and organize the governance
of this project. Naively, a number of approaches seem reasonable to
consider as potentialities. The Linux kernel has achieved great
success with some form of
benevolent dictatorship model.
Debian prides itself on a very structured
constitutional
democracy. Finally, we could imagine a governance scheme that
sought to replicate the
traditional university model, with a
president/provost in some executive role and faculty body as a type of
legislative body, and possibly a board of regents/chancellors for
oversight. It might very well be most prudent to delay this
consideration until the project reaches more of a critical mass.
